Cell Phone

This will be mailed and was sent home with all 7th & 8th Graders today.

Dear Care Givers,

We are having some disturbing happenings in our school.  Students are planning fights in the bathrooms.  We know they are planned as there are students who are videoing the fight before it begins.

Due to very concerning issues regarding using a video camera in the bathrooms and the fact that this is disrupting our school day and our educational process, we are not going to allow any student in grades 7 – 8 to have access to a cell phone during the school day.  We highly encourage students to leave their phones at home, however, if you as a care giver feels that your child needs a phone so they can check in when school is over, the child will be required to turn in their phones to the school secretary in the morning and they will be locked securely away until the students are ready to get on the bus home.

If a student in grades 7 - 8 brings a phone to school and does not check it in the following consequences will occur:

1.      First offense, the phone will be confiscated and will be kept locked up until the end of the next school day – meaning it will remain in school overnight unless a parent or guardian comes to pick it up.

2.     Second offense, the student will receive a day of in-school suspension and the phone will not be returned to the student.  A parent or a legal guardian must come and pick up the phone.

3.     Third offense, the student will not be allowed to return to school until a parent or a guardian brings in the child for a meeting with the principal and superintendent.

We understand that we are all attached to our phones, however, we absolutely cannot allow the continuation of behavior that can be so harmful to our students.  The fighting is bad, but the violations of privacy for students is worse and can have far harsher consequences – including the involvement of law enforcement.

This will take effect on Monday, January 30th.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this issue, please do not hesitate to call or come into the school to talk.
